Abstract
688,705. Arc-rupturing in switches. ETABLISSEMENTS MERLIN & GERIN. May 26, 1950, No. 13349/50. Class 38 (v) In a circuit-breaker or contactor having a magnetic blow-out and a partitioned arc chamber 5, the partitions or arc barriers 6, 7 are so curved that they intersect at right-angles the paths, which in the absence of the partitions, the arc would assume in its various positions during blow-out. The blowout coil 3 is located substantially in the centre of the arc chamber and is connected in circuit when the arc is struck and transferred from the moving contact 2 to an auxiliary electrode 10. The arc chamber may be formed in two halves symmetrical with reference to a vertical plane and the co-operating surfaces of the halves may be recessed as at A to provide at least one vertical vent to assist in venting the arc-generated gases. The main vents between the partitions and the walls of the chamber may have stacks of cooling plates 11 ... 13 to cool the exhausting arc gases.
