Abstract

700,389. Arc-rupturing in switches. ALLISCHALMERS MANUFACTURING CO. June 26, 1951 [Feb. 3, 1951], No. 15121/51. Class 38(5) In a switch, such as that of Specification 700,388, having an arc chute with a plurality of spaced slotted plates 25 having apertures 27 to provide auxiliary arc passages, the slots 26 in the plates are shaped so as to provide first portions which gradually restrict the cross-section of the arc to the size of the nearest apertures and second portions to retain the arcs restricted size as the arc moves up into the chute. As shown, the slot 26 in each plate 25 may have a V-shaped portion to constrict the arc and a second narrow parallel sided portion. Specifications 615,025, and 689,227 also are referred to.
