Abstract

615,025. Arc-rupturing in switches. REYROLLE & CO., Ltd., A., and WILD, R. W. Aug. 16, 1946, No. 24372. [Class 38 (v)] In an arc-shoot for an air-break circuitbreaker, a number of spaced, parallel plates A, B, arranged transversely of the arc, have slots A<1>, B<1>, leading to rows of spaced apertures A2, B<2>, the apertures in adjacent plates being relatively staggered so that the arc follows a zig-zag path. The spacing of the apertures A<2>, B<2> is such as gradually to increase the length of the arc, as shown at J<1> ... J<4>. The spacers C are tapered upwardly to form a diverging nozzle. As the apertures lie in a single plane, the width of the shoot is reduced and an increased magnetic field produced between side cheeks G.
