687,535. Sheathed electric heating resistances. HOTPOINT ELECTRIC APPLIANCE CO., Ltd. Nov. 6, 1951 [Jan. 31,1951], No. 2446/51. Drawings to Specification. Class 39(iii) In a heating element comprising a helical resistance wire embedded in insulating powder in a tubular copper sheath, the sheath is given a continuous hard coating of nickel by electro-plating or spraying and the element is swaged to compact the nickel coating and close any pin-holes therein. The element is finally coated with tin, chromium or other metal suitable for immersion in a liquid to be heated. The element may be semi-circular or U-shaped, contains magnesium oxide as insulator and may be swaged before coating with nickel.
