Abstract
1,137,741. Resistance heating elements. PHILIPS ELECTRONIC & ASSOCIATED INDUSTRIES Ltd. 10 March, 1966 [13 March, 1965], No. 10566/66. Heading H5H. [Also in Divisions B3, G1, H1 and H2] A composite filamentary body comprises at least one wire 1 separated from a sleeve 3 by an insulating material 4, e.g. magnesium oxide or aluminium oxide, the wire being formed from a core 1 and a layer 2 of less deformable material. Parts of the core 1 are good conductors of electricity, e.g. copper, silver, aluminium, and the outer layer 2 has a high resistivity, e.g. nickel or nickel-chromium alloy, applied electrolytically or the envelope may be a pipe. The core of the wire is constructed of materials of various resistivities 5-8, e.g. copper and nickel-chromium alloy, to form a heating element. Alternatively the wire may be of high resistivity material (9), Fig. 2 (not shown) with a conducting material (11) inserted in a sleeve (10) at each end of the wire to form the terminals. In a modification of the heating element the wire is U-shaped with limbs 13, 14 each with conducting material 17, 18 at their free ends.
