Abstract

558,369. Cut-outs ; resistances. ENGLISH ELECTRIC CO., Ltd., and LANDERS, M. A. B. Aug 14, 1942, No. 11436. [Classes 37 and 38 (i)] A cut-out comprises a film of graphite on the surface of an insulating support such as a rod of steatite, porcelain, or other non-resinous material. The graphite film may be plated with a coating or coatings of copper, silver, nickel, &c. The insulating rod 1 may be completely covered by the film or broad end pieces 2b on which fit ferrules 4 or coils of wire are connected by a thin band 2a which may be of zigzag or helical form. The resistance and working voltage of the cut-out may be varied by varying the length and width of the film, or the concentration of the graphite composition, or by the use of different metals if a metallic film is added. The elements may be grouped in series, Fig. 3, or in parallel, Fig. 4. In the latter case ferrules 4 or wires may be directly connected to end plates or to the caps 6 of a cartridge 7.
