Abstract
An electrically conductive coating or composition comprises ceramic material which has been mixed with oxides and subjected to heat treatment to produce within the ceramic material a continuous conductive network of crystals consisting of a solid solution of substances, usually spinels, of different resistivities. The oxide mixture may consist of zinc oxide, iron oxide, or nickel oxide in various proportions, or the nickel oxide may be replaced by cobalt oxide, chromium oxide, or copper oxide. Other oxides such as titanium oxide or zirconium oxide may be used. The ceramic material is a mixture of those materials usually used for ceramic bodies, glazes, or glasses. A number of ceramic mixtures and oxide mixtures are described in the Specification. The material thus formed is particularly suitable for producing electric resistances, or electric "insulators" which are electrically conductive or have an electrically-conducting coating.
