Class 64 (i) An autoclave 1 has a lid (not shown), at least one closable outlet 3 at the bottom and heater pipes 6 carrying an agitator 9 and interconnecting two distributer heads 5 which present trunnions 7 engaged with bearings 4 carried by the autoclave wall, the trunnions receiving pipe connections 10. The agitator or stirring plate 9, secured to rods 8, and the heater 5, 6, through which steam is passed, are rotated by means of sprockets 13. A secondary, quickrelease lid is included in the main lid. There may be an additional outlet in the conical bottom part connected to a pump having its delivery part connected by a pipe to the top of the autoclave. Compressed air is used to expel the autoclave contents after heating.
