Abstract
683,213. Sliver guides in drawing frames. WHITEHEAD & CO. (OLDHAM), Ltd., H., and WHITEHEAD, H. N. June 30, 1950 [Dec. 6, 1949], No. 31244/49. Class 120(i) In a drawing frame of the type employing calendar rollers which feed the sliver through a trumpet to a coiler can, the calendar rollers 3, 4 are grooved and tongued at 5, 6 respectively so as to provide a rectangular space e 7 through which the sliver x is passed from a trumpet 8 shaped so that the sliver is folded to a diameter on leaving the trumpet not greater than the width of the rectangular space, the folded sliver being passed direct from the rollers to a coiler can, and the outlet from the trumpet being close to, if not actually in, the groove in the roller. As shown, a stripper 10, pivoted on a member 12 freely mounted on the shaft 1 of roller 3, is spring-pressed into groove 5, to clear the latter, prevent lapping, and guide the condensed sliver into a coiler can. Member 12 is prevented from rotating with shaft 1 by an arm which extends over the shaft 2 of roller 4.
