Abstract

736,531. Drawing wire. NORTON & CO., Ltd., Sir J. F., and DAVIDSON, N. Feb. 2, 1954 [Feb. 27, 1953], No. 5506/53. Class 83 (4). In a wire-drawing machine with a series of blocks a on which the wire may accumulate, a coaxial freely rotatable drum d is arranged around each block a and the wire is guided between them over a flyer. The block a is drivingly supported on a shaft c and the drum d rotatably mounted on pillars e having roller bearings f engaging the inner face of the drum d. The flyer comprises a disc i carrying guide rollers o, p, q counterbalanced by a weight k and is rotatably mounted on a spindle j attached to the top of the block a. The flyer is frictionally driven by engagement with a ring g on the block, frictional pressure being adjustable by a handwheel r through a spring s. A cover u attached to the spindle j surrounds the flyer. In operation in the event of stoppage of a block b the wire is 'drawn off from that block and its surrounding drum by the following block while wire accumulates on the preceding block and drum.
