Abstract

682,546. Turning; making turbines &c. ROLLS-ROYCE, Ltd. April 6, 1951 [May 3, 1950], No. 10984/50. Classes 83 (ii) and 83 (iii). [Also in Group XXVI] A turbine or compressor rotor is lightened by providing an annular recess 14 extending from an axial bore 11 in the hub 10 and formed by a turning tool 21 with a convex cutting edge 21a, the tool being swung about a centre 17 while the rotor is rotated to cut the arcs 15, 16 and the rotor then being reversed in position and the operation repeated to cut the arcs 18, 19. Alternatively, straight tapers 22 may be formed in the bore before machining the arcs 16, 19 with the tool 21.
