Abstract

704,882. Turbine blades. ALLEN SONS & CO., Ltd., W. H., and WATSON, C. A. March 7, 1952 [March 8, 1951], No. 5656/51. Class 110 (3) In a turbine or like bladed rotor in which the blades are mounted in circumferential grooves formed in the rotor, being entered therein through a lateral blade-filling gap, a blade or blades adjacent the lateral gap is secured by means of a screwed plug which engages a threaded hole formed partly in the rotor, or a part secured thereto, and partly in the root portion of the blade. The root portion of the blade preferably has a lateral extension which extends into the gap. In Fig. 5, the blade root 11 of the last blade has a lateral non-serrated extension 10 and a filler piece 13 of channel section is fitted into the blade-filling gap. A plug 14 is screwed into a threaded hole formed partly in the rotor and partly in the blade root extension, and also partly in the filler piece 13. In another embodiment, a renewable plug 5 is first screwed into a radial hole in the rotor the serrated circumferential groove 2 and the lateral blade-filling gap 6 are then formed, part of the plug 5 being removed when the lateral gap 6 is formed. The blades are then entered into the groove, the final blade having a lateral non- serrated extension 10. A channel-shaped filler piece 13 is then fitted in the gap and engages the lateral root extension 10. A threaded hole is then formed partly in the plug 5, blade root extension 10 and filler piece 13 into which a plug 14 is screwed so as to lock the blades in position.
