Abstract
1,270,203. Turbomachine blade shrouding. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO. March 19, 1970 [April 11, 1969], No.13233/70. Heading F1T. The rotor blades 2 of a turbomachine are interconnected by a shrouding arrangement including stepped tenons 4 at the tip of each blade 2, each tenon 4 having a base portion 6 which loosely engages a hole in a first shroud segment 14 and a top portion 7 which is rigidly connected to a further shroud segment 14 overlying and in staggered relationship to the first segment. In the arrangement shown the segments 14 are cranked at 15 and the first segment rigidly engages the top portions 7 of the tenons 4 of an adjacent blade 2. In a modification Figs. 1 to 3 (not shown) the shroud segments are not cranked so that the first or inner segments loosely engage the base portions 6 of the tenons 4 on adjacent blades 2 whereas the further or outer segments are rigidly connected to tenon top portions 7. The inner shroud segments are urged into frictional engagement with the outer segements by centrifugal force, thus assisting vibration damping.
