Abstract
682,515. Travelling wave tubes. PHILIPS ELECTRICAL, Ltd. Sept. 6, 1949 [Sept. 9, 1948], No. 23027/49. Class 39(i) In a travelling wave tube, damping of the helix or helices to match operating conditions is obtained by providing a variable layer of material of poor conductivity on the outer wall of the tube. A layer of colloidal graphite may be deposited and wiped off as required, or a cylinder of glass 12 coated internally over the whole or a part with graphite slides relative to an inner cylinder or sector of copper 13 to secure damping of the helix 7. The latter is surrounded at its ends by wave guides 8, 9.
