633,418. Resistance coatings and deposits. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES, Ltd., and FELDHUSEN, I. V. Nov. 9, 1946, No. 33345. [Class 37] A resistance consists of a non-conducting, e.g. a ceramic rod coated with a carbon layer 2 and with end electrodes 3, 5 which are deposited as a metal paste subsequently dried by baking, the electrodes having interlacing fingers 4, 6 separated by a conducting carbon path 7, wide in relation to its length. The resistance value is adjustable by varying the dimensions of the fingers, grinding away the carbon film, or depositing a thin metal film over the carbon layer by sputtering or evaporation. The cross section of the rod may be other than circular, the resistance film and electrodes may be deposited inside and or outside a tube, or the electrodes may comprise metal inserts moulded into the rod. The Provisional Specification refers to electrodes applied as two narrow parallel helical strips. Specification 569,388, [Group II], is referred to.
