Abstract

A goggle valve controlling the flow of fluid through a conduit 10 comprises a valve plate 17 carried on a pivot pin 18 and movable transversely between seats 15, 16 secured to short pipes 12, B arranged in the run together with an expansion joint 13 and a further short pipe A. Springs 36 in two-part boxes 37, 38 spaced equally around the valve urge the seat 15 to nip the plate 17 between it and the seat 16. To permit transverse movement of the plate cylinders 42 spaced around the valve in alignment with the boxes are supplied with pressure liquid through pipes 48 to urge pistons 41 having two-part rods 44b, 44c to move the seat 15 away from the plate 17. To permit the removal of one of the piston-cylinder assemblies without disturbing any of the others, the part 44b which is separate from the piston is screwed into the part 44c until a spigot 52 thereon is removable from a recess 51 in a plate 40 mounting the seat 15, whence the rods 44b, 44c may be removed. The pipe 48 and an outlet pipe 49 are then disconnected and bolts 55 unscrewed to permit the transverse removal of a ring 53 and the withdrawal through a hole in the backplate 29 of the piston and cylinder.
