Class 86 A mixing and/or kneading machine comprises an upright cylindrical container within which an inclined mixing and cutting disc rotates about its own axis and along a circular path about the axis of the container. As described the apparatus comprises a cylindrical container 3 within which is mounted centrally a rotatable cylinder 6 defining an annular mixing chamber A. The cylinder 6 is rotated by a motor 21 through pinions 19, 16 and is formed with a bearing 22 within which is journalled a shaft 23 carrying a mixing and cutting disc 27. The shaft 23 is disposed at an angle such that the plane of the disc is inclined towards the axis of the container 3 and extends across the annular chamber A from the point of convergence of the wall and base of the container to the top of the cylinder. A pinion 24 on the shaft 23 engages a fixed pinion 25 so that the disc is rotated about its own axis as the cylinder 6 rotates. The disc may be formed with impellers 30 and apertures 31. Removable covers 32b are provided to open when the material is ready for discharge. A scraper may be provided for cleaning the bottom.
