Class 5 (2) Apparatus for preparing food for livestock comprises a cooking receptacle 10, e.g. with a heater 12, a tap 18 for drawing off liquid, a rotatable shaft 21 carrying radial mixing arms 20. a rotatable feed worm 25 connected, as by gear wheels 30 and 32, to the shaft so that the arms and worm circulate the food, and a closable discharge orifice, e.g. closed by a movable plate 28 carrying the tap. The worm and arms 5 are rotated in opposite directions. Adiacent arms may be at right angles to each other. The arms may extend further on one side of the shaft than on the other and the longer parts of alternate arms may be on opposite sides of the shaft. The mixing arms and the worm may be located about a common vertical axis, Fig. 3 (not shown). The arms may then comprise upwardly inclined blades mounted on and projecting from the worm. Into the base of the receptacle may open a discharge conduit containing a second worm aligned with and of the same hand as the first and fixed thereto. The worms may be driven by a reversible drive. The Provisional Specification describes also an apparatus in which a rotatable spindle carrying one or more pairs of diametrically opposed blades is mounted in a receptacle having one or more pairs of blades fixed to its inner wall. The rotary and fixed blades may be radially slotted so that each pair comprises a number of axially spaced fingers registering with the slots in the other pair. Another apparatus is described in which a rotatable spindle carrying a mixing worm is mounted centrally in a vertical receptacle and extends below it to carry a delivery worm which is enclosed within a delivery compartment communicating with the receptacle through an adjustable grating, a mincer being provided at the lower or delivery end of the compartment.
