[Class 86] A machine for mixing concrete and other materials comprises a mixing drum which has its interior divided into inner and outer inter-communicating concentric spaces and mixing elements which urge a mix to circulate in opposite directions through these two spaces. As shown in Fig. 1 a rotatable drum 1 is divided into inner and outer concentric spaces by an open ended frustro conical or cylindrically shaped separating member 17 which is fixed to the drum 1 by brackets 23 and has its inner end supported on a boss 10. The member 17 may be formed of two or more plates 17a, 17b, Fig. 2, welded together at 19, to form a complete body of revolution at its forward end and openings 18 at its inner end, or it may be formed of plates spaced apart over their full length and fixed to a frame. Each plate is bent outwardly along a line 21 to form a blade 20 which picks up the mix falling from the outer end of the separating member and returns it to the closed end of the drum by way of an opening 18 when the blade 20 approaches its highest position. In modifications the drum may rotate about a stationary separating member or the blades may rotate in a stationary drum in which case the separating member may be either stationary or rotate with the mixing blades. Discharge of the mix may be effected by an additional forward tilt of the drum 1 or by reversing the direction of the rotation of the drum.
