680,965. Cranes. CHANTIERS ET ATELIERS DE CONSTRUCTION DE LYON. Nov. 17, 1950. [May 13, 1950] No. 28160/50. Class 78 (iv). A crane comprises a tower with a jib hinged thereon and a carriage movable along a runway provided on the jib, the burden rope both lifts the load through the carriage, when the jib is locked in a horizontal position, and through a sheave block fixed to the free end of the jib when the jib is in an inclined position. A jib 1 is mounted on a hinge at 2 on the tower 3 and kept in a horizontal position by a tie rod 4. A carriage 6 is carried on a runway 5 and hoisting means comprises a hook 7 pulled by a burden rope 8. In order to lift the loads higher the carriage is locked near the tower and the snatch block 13 is fitted to the end of the jib after the burden rope has been passed along the path 8a. By pulling on the rope 8 the straps 9 of the hook 7 engage the jib and, after unlocking the tie rod 4, the jib is raised and then the tie rod is locked again. A cab 12 is adapted to move vertically inside the tower frame.
