Abstract
680,023. Washing-machines. HOOVER (WASHING MACHINES), Ltd., BELL, W. C., BUTTREY, R. N., DUNN, H. G., and HAYDON, E. K. Jan. 19, 1951. [Jan. 25, 1950]. No. 1975/50. Class 138 (ii). In a washing machine including a continuously rotating power driven impeller B mounted in a container for washing liquid, the impeller preferably being mounted close to a side wall of the container with its axis approximately horizontal, the impeller is in the form of a disc having radial vanes B3 on its face, and the leading faces B<SP>4</SP> of the vanes (for a given direction of rotation) are inclined at a different angle to the trailing faces B<SP>5</SP>, with respect to the plane of the disc, and for varying the intensity of the washing action means is provided for readily reversing the direction of rotation of the impeller. The container itself may be asymmetrical, being shaped like a rectangle with one lower corner cut off, when viewed in section on a plane at right angles to the horizontal shaft of the impeller. The impeller may lie partly within a recess in the side wall and is driven through a belt and pulleys by an electric motor provided with a reversing switch.
