586,180. Washing-machines. STEVENS, A. H. (Electric Household Utilities Corporation). Nov. 17, 1944, No. 22867. [Class 138 (ii)] [Also in Group II] A self-adjusting counter-balancing unit for a centrifugal machine comprises two or more rings 42, 43, which loosely surround, and are driven by a rotatable shaft 25, the ring chamber 45 being shaped to cause the rings to be centralized when the shaft is at rest. Fig. 1 shows a hydroextractor 20 in which wet clothing B is rotated at high speed, water being ejected through holes 22. When the clothing B takes up the position shown, the rings 42, 43 move up the slopes 51, 54, to balance the off-set load. The ring chamber 45 rests on a seating 55 which drives it frictionally. An electric motor 31 is coupled to the rotary shaft 25, and a shaft 26, used for oscillating vanes 28 in a washing operation prior to the drying operation, through gearing 30, not described. Water is removed from a receptacle 10 by a pump 39. Preferably, the motor, driving mechanism, and rotating parts have a flexible suspension comprising a frame 60 supported by means of three flexible, non-stretchable straps 64, such as leather.
