Abstract

675,690. Colloid mills. CHINA, F. J. E. Feb. 7, 1951 [Feb. 23, 1950], No. 4645/50. Class 59 In a colloid mill comprising a stator and a high-speed rotor, the latter is provided with a flexible working surface tending to expand by centrifugal action towards the rigid working surface of the stator and both the working surfaces are substantially cylindrical or frusto-conical. In the form shown, the working surface of the rotor is the outer surface of a lip 8 of a moulded ring 7 of flexible material clamped between members 5 and 6. The flexible working surface may be of leather, felted asbestos, wool felt, rubber or a rubber-like elastomer. The material is fed to the working surfaces by means of a pump having vanes 4, and the treated material is collected in the space 10 and withdrawn by an outlet 11. Means, e.g. a water cooler, may be provided for maintaining the stator cool.
