A washing-machine comprising a continuously rotating agitator located adjacent to the wall, bottom or lid of a washing container, is provided with a flow guiding member comprising a disc or ring disposed coaxially with the agitator and provided with a guide blade or baffle whereby the current flow of washing liquid changes its direction periodically. In one example, Fig. 1, the flow guiding member comprises a disc 5 having a smoothly curved guide blade 6 which partly encompasses the agitator 4, the disc 5 rotating at a slower speed than the agitator. The disc 5 may have protrusions or ribs 7 so that the currents set up in the liquid by the agitator 4 impart a slow rotation to the disc 5. In a modification, both the agitator and the flow guiding member are driven by an electric motor which is connected to the flow guiding member through reduction gearing. Alternatively, the flow guiding member and agitator may be provided with ribs which form a liquid coupling between the two members. In a further alternative the flow guiding member is journalled on the agitator shaft, but driven by the friction between it and the shaft. In Fig. 5, the flow guiding member is formed as a ring 25 provided with a guide blade 26, and is journalled as shown to be rotatable about the circumference of the agitator 24. The agitator may be apertured as at 21. In Fig. 3 (not shown), the agitator has radial vanes on both sides and rotates in a recess in the bottom of the container.
