A washing machine of the type having a rotary drum 5, mounted within a drum 1 and belt driven by a motor 11 has the motor 11 eccentrically mounted on a disc 15 which is rotatable about its axis to tension the belt 9. The disc 15 is mounted on a downward projection of the end wall 19 of the drum 1 by lugs 17, with the motor projecting through a hole in the part 19. If two motors are provided they may both be mounted in the same manner.
