679,024. Compressed air engines; engine valve-gear. NATIONAL RESEARCH DEVELOPMENT CORPORATION. Dec. 14, 950 [Sept. 14, 1949], No. 23754/49. Classes 122(ii) and 122(iii) [Also in Group XXVIII] The working stroke of a piston 43, Fig. 1, is effected by air pressure from a reservoir 70 when a poppet valve 90 is open and the return stroke is effected by the inherent resilience of bellows 41, on unseating the poppet 94 and venting the air through an aperture 92a. The poppet 94 is held from its seat for fifteen minutes between piston strokes by a capsule 93b supplied with air from the reservoir 70 through a duct 111, a normally open relay ball valve 108, Fig. 7, and a duct 112. The valve 108 is closed for the duration of a working stroke of the piston 43, i.e. between 5 and 10 second at the end of a fifteen minute filtering period (see Group XXVIII) by a capsule 108a, which is supplied with compressed air from a continuous jet 102 when the latter and peripheral holes in plates 98, 100 rotated at nine and one r.p.h. respectively by clockwork mechanism 3 register so as to allow the jet 102 access to a receiving jet 103 and the capsule 108a connected therewith.
