676,871. Plywood. OFFICE NATIONAL D'ETUDES ET DE RECHERCHES AERONAUTIQUES O.N.E.R.A. March 1, 1949 [March 5, 1948], No. 5537/49. Class 145 (ii). [Also in Group VIII] Wood is treated with a solution of sodium hypochlorite to remove the inter-cellulosic structure and is impregnated with a thermosetting or thermoplastic synthetic resin. The synthetic resin may be melamine formaldehyde and may have added thereto a wetting agent or colouring matter. The wood may be in the form of laminµ, or "veneers of considerable relative thickness " in which case the impregnation may be performed under compressed air pressure in an autoclave. Veneers so treated and impregnated with a thermoplastic resin' may be united to form plywood, or pieces of wood so treated may be joined together e.g. by their edges, or may be moulded and shaped, e.g. in plaster moulds, by the application of heat and pressure.
