Abstract

Grinding or polishing wheels and tools are formed from pieces of felted fibrous material with which abrasive materials have been incorporated, arranged in haphazard or non-stratified form and bonded together by means of an artificial resin binder. The fibrous material is formed as described in Specifications 555,640 and 557,038, [both in Group XXIII], and the webs are cut or otherwise reduced to small pieces approximately 1/16 inch square and a urea or phenol-formaldehyde resin is incorporated. The material is fed into a mould, compacted by heat and pressure, and finally cured by heat.ALSO:Grinding or polishing wheels and tools are formed from pieces of felted fibrous material with which abrasive materials have been incorporated, arranged in haphazard or non-stratified form and bonded together by means of an adhesive. The fibrous material is formed, as described in Specifications 555,640 and 557,038, [both in Group XXIII]. The webs are cut or otherwise reduced to small pieces, approximately 1/16 inch square, an adhesive binder is incorporated, e.g., glue adhesives treated with a plasticizer such as ethylene glycol, dibutyl phthalate, glycerine, or the like, casein glues, natural or artificial rubber latices, or other natural or artificial resins alone or in admixture. The webs may have been coated with the adhesive before cutting-up. The material is fed into a mould, compacted by heat and pressure, and finally cured by heat.
