Abstract
556,813. Laminated fabrics. PILKINGTON BROS., Ltd., and BRADLEY, P. R. April 17, 1942, No. 5156. [Class 140] For the production of laminated articles by the application of plastics in powder form to laminar materials of a non-retaining nature such as wood veneer with uneven or cockly surfaces or open weave textiles which do not lend themselves to efficient dry particle spreading operations a sandwich is formed of layers of even surface material such as paper or close weave textiles and of the dry plastic particles such as phenol or cresol formaldehyde resin which is subject to heat and pressure sufficient to cause the layers of paper &c. to become united to the plastic and the layer or layers of veneer or other non-retaining material are then applied to or between the sandwich or sandwiches and united thereto under moulding pressure and temperature causing the plastic to exclude through the laminar material of the sandwich or sandwiches and bond the latter to the veneer &c. and to attain the fully cured condition. Fabric such as open weave or net material or strong or cord material may be included in the plastic layer of the sandwich. Specification 551,610 is referred to.
