577,823. Compound and coated fabrics. BRUYNE, N. A. De. May 4, 1942, No. 5990. [Class 140] A composite sheet of metal, or wood, fabric or other cellulosic material and metal has the layers bonded together by interposing between the two surfaces a layer of polyvinyl acetal resin and between the polyvinyl acetal layer and each of the two surfaces to be united a layer of heat-hardenable resin such as phenol-formaldehyde or metacresol-formaldehyde condensation product and pressing the sheets to be united and the interposed layers together at a temperature sufficient to harden the heat-hardenable resin, e.g., at a pressure of 1 ton per square inch and at a temperature of 140‹C. In a modified process each of the sheets to be united is coated with the uncured heat-hardenable resin and a layer of powdered polyvinyl acetal resin interposed between the coated surfaces and the sheets then pressed together. In another modified process the sheets are united by an adhesive film material made of a film of the polyvinyl acetal resin coated with the heat-hardening resin. Specification 525,556.
