793,002. Embossing. GNAEFE, Ltd., R., and PEARCE, K. H. Nov 21,1956 [Nov. 23, 1955], No. 33556/55. Class 100(2) [Also in Group XXIII] A method of making embossed plywood comprises uniting constructional plywood layers together under heat and pressure by means of a thermo-setting resin or like adhesive, uniting a veneer layer to the constructional layers by a more resilient adhesive and forming an embossed pattern on the veneer layer. In an example, the constructional layers include two outer layers 1.6 mm. thick and a middle layer 3.2 mm. thick united together under heat and pressure using a urear-formaldehyde resin; a veneer layer 0.7 mm. thick is then united to the constructional layers at a temperature of 90‹C and pressure of 60 pounds per sq. in. using a heat re-active Scotch glue. The moisture content of the plywood is controlled to between 10-12 per cent before embossing with an aluminium .caul at a temperature of 90‹C and a pressure of 150 pounds per sq. in. A resilient adhesive of the plasticized synthetic type may be used in place of Scotch glue. The Provisional Specification describes also the use of a urea-formaldehyde resin for bonding all the layers and an expanded metal to follow 792,332
