Abstract
676,673. Belt fastenings. MATTHAEI, C. Sept. 22, 1950 [Sept. 29, 1949; Sept. 29, 1949; Jan. 23, 1950], No. 23244/50. Class 80 (i). A machine for securing wire hook staples to the ends of belts for hinged joint connections comprises two separable main parts one of which, Fig. 5, is constituted by two side frames 1 spaced apart by ties 3, 4, tubes 7, 6 and a combshaped holder 5 for receiving a row of staples 72 together with a clamping device 8, 9, 32 for holding the belt end 24. The other part, Fig. 4, comprises a pressing device having two side frames. 10 with recesses 20 and 21 at the front and rear which are adapted to embrace respectively the comb-holder 5 and the tube 6 of the' first part. The side frames 10 carry pivoted links 12, 13 with jaws 14, 15 which are adapted to be operated through a toggle (not shown) and a screw device by a hand lever 19. The pivots of the links 12, 13 may be adjustable by means of eccentric supporting pins in order that different thicknesses of belts can be accommodated between the jaws 14, 15, and the whole pressing device may be slid transversely along the tubes 5 and 6 so that the pressing operation can be effected in stages across the width of the belt. The clamping device 8, 9, 32 comprises levers 9 rotatable on a tube 8 and having cam ends to grip the belt when projections 35 on the links 12: of the pressing device are operated, the tube 8 being adjustable in relation to tube 7 by lever nuts 32.
