Abstract

676,250. Angular bending. KENNEDY, W. H. Feb. 13, 1951 [Feb. 15, 1950], No. 3903/50. Class 83 (iv). Formers.-In a pivoted bender in which a tube &c. is clamped to a grooved former 5 rotated to effect bending, the clamp 7 is mounted on a carrier 8 rotatable independently of the former. The tube is placed on a mandrel 18 and is clamped to the former 5 by raising a hand lever 9 which is locked in position by a rod 14 engaging a slot in the former. A back clamp 23 is positioned by raising a lever 20 on a carrier 3 with abutment screw 22. When in clamping position a hole in the carrier 3 aligns with a rod 24 to allow a spring 19 to advance the mandrel 18 to working position. After clamping, the former is rotated by the lever 9 or by an electromotor to effect bending and the clamp is then released and the carrier 8 restored to its original position to allow the bent tube to be withdrawn when the back clamp 23 is released.
