688,314. Locking rods. BRITISH INSULATED CALLENDER'S CABLES, Ltd. Sept. 19, 1951 [Sept. 20, 1950], No. 23085/50. Class 80 (iii). A spindle 3 of an instrument is locked in an adjusted position by means of a slotted plate 5 secured at 14 to the instrument panel 2 and resiliently gripping the spindle by means of the sides of the slot 7. The locking can be released when desired by the insertion of a flat bar or screwdriver in the slot to expand it. In an alternative arrangement a rotatable pin with a flattened portion is mounted so that the flats lie in the slot of the plate but do not engage it. When the pin is turned by, for example, a screwdriver the slot is forced open to release the locking action. In another arrangement the slotted portion of the plate is of curved form so that a direct pressure parallel to the axis of the spindle opens the slot.
