787,337. Angular bending. BAHLER & CO. Nov. 9, 1954 [Nov. 9, 1953; July 2, 1954], No. 32425/54. Class 83 (4). Apparatus for bending pipes, rails or bars comprises a base-plate 1 carrying a vertical pivot 2 on which a bending former 3 is rotatable. The former has a peripheral groove 4. A clamping jaw 7 is displaceable approximately radially of the former and has an inclined outer surface 12 engaged by a roller 11 carried by a lever 10 pivotally connected to the former at 9. On the outer end of lever 10 is a plug 14 over which a tube 15 for extending the lever arm can be placed. To a flat side of the former is secured a plate 17 with a plug over which a tube 19 with an adjustable abutment plate 20 can be placed and clamped rigidly to the plug by tightening a screw 21. A pointer 22 mounted on the top flat end of the pivot 22 co-operates with a scale on the bending former. A second fixed pivot 23 on the base-plate 1 carries a bending roller 24. At the end of the base-plate is a pedestal 25 which supports a mandrel 26 provided at its end with an arcuate point corresponding to the radius of the groove of the bending former; by means of a clamping screw 28 and an intermediate member 27 with threaded connection 29, the mandrel can be adjusted longitudinally. In a modification, Fig. 4, the bending former 33 rotates about a pivot 31 on the base-plate 30, the pivot also supporting a gear 32 meshing with a gear 34 rotatable on a pivot 35 on the base-plate 30; a bifurcated lever head 36 is supported for oscillation on the pivot 35 and carries a pawl 37 urged by a spring 38 against the gear 34; a pawl 47 prevents backward rotation of the gear 32. A lug 17 on the gear 32 rocks the clamping fork 40 about its pivot 41 so that the roller 42 clamps the jaw 43 against the workpiece.
