Abstract

674,364. Valve closure members. HAWKER AIRCRAFT, Ltd. Jan. 5, 1951 [Feb. 17, 1950], No. 4183/50. Class 135. A rotary cylindrical valve comprises a body 30, Fig. 1, having a cylindrical chamber containing a split sleeve 43 rotatable by arms 51 having forked ends 52, Fig. 2, engageable with either of two projections 44 formed by strips on opposite sides of the split in the sleeve. Thus, when the arms 51 are turned by a spindle 48, the sleeve contracts ensuring its easy rotation. A port 45 in the sleeve controls communication between ports 36, 39 in the body, the port 39 always being open to the interior of the sleeve. The port 45 has a shape varying from a narrow slit to a circle of the same diameter as the port 36. The spindle may be driven by an electric actuator, and two valves may be mounted on a common spindle and have a common outlet port to form a mixing valve.
