672,044. Boiler furnaces. LINDERROTH, E. T. Jan. 27, 1950 [Jan. 29, 1949], No. 2249/50. Class 51 (i). [Also in Group XIII] In a boiler furnace adapted for intermittent fuel consumption the combustion chamber 1 formed with an aperture 2 in which is mounted a wire mesh regenerator 3 (see Group XIII), is supplied intermittently by a pump 4 with liquid fuel which is fired by an electric igniter 6. Flue gases exhausting through the regenerator 3 are diverted by a baffle 8 through an annular chamber 9 to a chimney 10 and, as the combustion chamber cools, air is drawn in through the annular slot 11, being heated by the regenerator 3 on its way to the combustion chamber. A modification, Fig. 3, has the combustion chamber opening at the top disposed below a frusto-conical chimney 9a and the inner side of said opening is shaped to direct a jet of heated air down a frusto-conical baffle 13 disposed in the combustion chamber 1a, the baffle and combustion chamber being lined with water tubes 14 which also form a convection heating system in the upper part of the chamber, as shown. Fuel supplied through a valved pipe 15 is intermittently injected into the furnace by the piston of an air pump 18. Pulverised coal may be supplied instead of liquid fuel.
