671,183. Elastic valves. RATELBAND, J. B. June 20, 1950, No. 15438/50. Class 135. In a check valve comprising a flexible sleeve or diaphragm 6 clamped at one or both ends to the valve housing and surrounding a streamlined core body 5a, 5b separated by a passage from the inside of the housing, the sleeve has an annular tongue 6b adapted to embrace the core body when the valve is closed and is formed with one or more annular ribs 6a which are secured in tension to the wall of the housing. The ribs 6a are thickened at their rims 10 and are clamped between distance rings 8. The ribs 6a have a number of radial cuts extending into the tube-like part of the diaphragm. The housing comprises flanged end sections 4a, 4b clamped to a central section 4c by bolts 7. These also clamp in position the ribs 6a and the rings 8 as well as the flange 9 of the diaphragm itself. The core body is formed in two parts 5a, 5b, the part 5a being united to the housing section 4a by ribs 5c. A bye-pass passage 12 may be shut off by a needle valve 13. In a modification suitable for chemically reacting fluids, the flexible sleeve lines the whole of the valve housing in which it is secured by two end flanges and two intermediate flanges, the annular ribs and the annular tongue being:between the intermediate flanges.
