Abstract

693,028. Valves. MORRISON, R. F. G., MORRISON. Ltd.. and DOWNTON FOUNDRY & ENGINEERING CO., Ltd., J. March 26, 1952 [April 13, 1951], No. 8629/51. Class 135 The flexible tube of a pinch valve is deformable by the simultaneous movement of upper and lower pinch bars or anvils in opposite directions by inner and outer concentric means arranged on one side only of the tube. As shown, a rubber tube 4, Fig. 2, housed in a casing 1 having flanges 3 for connection in a pipe line and an enlarged rectangular section 5, is disposed between anvils 8, 6. The anvil 6 is connected by bolts 7, Fig. 1. to a yoke 12 having a threaded boss co-operating with external threads on the tubular portion of an operating member 10, whilst the anvil 8 is formed with a threaded stem 9 co-operating with internal threads on the tubular portion. The threads on the yoke 12 and stem 9 are of opposite hand so that on rotation of the member 10 the anvils move either apart or together. The threaded stem 9 may extend completely through the member 10 to give a visual indication of the state of the valve. In a modification, the yoke 12, Fig. 4, secured to the anvil 6 by the bolts 7, is formed with a tubular stem 10<SP>1</SP> which carries a cylinder 14 wherein is slidably mounted a piston 9a secured to the anvil 8. On the admittance of compressed air &c. to the cylinder 14 the anvils may be urged together to close the valve.
