Abstract

1278090 Valves A O SMITH CORP 8 Oct 1969 [8 Oct 1968] 49450/69 Heading F2V A gas relief valve for use in a pipe line comprises a fixed cylinder 18 provided with apertures 20, 21 feeding axial outlets 39, 40, a potatable cylinder 19 carried by a yoke 17 secured to a float (11, Figs, 2 and 3, not shown), a pair of spring bands 22, 23 which progressively uncover apertures 20, 21 as the float moves downwardly and a further pair of spring bands 24, 25 which counterbalance bands 22, 23. Each band is rigidly secured to one of the cylinders at one end and is attached to the other cylinder at its other end by a coil spring 28 or 50. Cylinder 18 is faced with a layer of resilient material 46 and has a central division 44 which isolates the apertures 20, 21. The bands may be of either nickel-chrome steel, or rubber like material with stiffening members. In various modifications (Figs. 7-10, not shown) three and five band arrangements are disclosed, and the bands and apertures are shaped to provide various relationships between gas flow and float movement.
