Abstract

531,656. Valves. JOHNSON, M. E., and BARKER, S. N. July 28, 1939, No. 21977. [Class 135] A valve device particularly adapted for controlling double-acting servomotors used for operating the stearing gear of aircraft, boats and road vehicles comprises two spring-loaded piston valves slidably mounted on a guide member provided with collars adapted to engage alternately with the valves to move them in the required direction. In the form shown the valve casing g<SP>1</SP> has a compressed air inlet i, exhaust ports h<SP>1</SP> and ports k, adapted to be connected by flexible conduits with the opposite ends of a power cylinder adapted to actuate the triple rudders of a power boat. Annular piston valves having sealing surfaces y<SP>3</SP> and reduced portions y<SP>5</SP> co-operate with ports h<SP>2</SP>, k<SP>2</SP> in liners u, u<SP>1</SP> held in place by detachable caps t, t<SP>1</SP> and are slidably mounted on a rod g between collars x<SP>1</SP>. The distance between the collars is slightly greater than is necessary to allow the spring g to seat both valves. The casing is coupled by a lever to the receiver of a telemotor operated by the steering wheel while the rod g is coupled to an arm on one of the steering posts to provide a follow-up connection. Specification 527,013 is referred to.
