Abstract
516,720. Fluid-pressure servomotor-control systems. PHILLIPS & POWIS AIRCRAFT, Ltd., and MILES, F. G. May 3, 1938, No. 13169. [Class 135] [Also in Group XXXIII] Aircraft flap-control means includes a doubleacting servo-control system having pilot-operable controlling means combined with means whereby operation of an engine-speed control operates the servo-control system. As shown, wing flaps 3 and a flap 4 disposed beneath the fuselage are operated, on rotation of a torque tube 5, by a servo-motor 12 through, respectively, links 7 and toggle levers 8 and a link 9. The servo-motor is actuated from a chamber 19 connected to the aero-engine induction-pipe 22 through a non- return valve 21, a moving-seat follow-up valve 15 being disposed between the chamber and the servo-motor. The valve 15 includes a part 31 having two ports and rotatable on movement of a control 17; a second part of the valve includes a member having three ports whereby one side of the servo-motor is connected through the part 31 to the chamber 19 and the other side of the servo-motor is connected to the atmosphere. The second part of the valve is connected through an arm 34 and a link 26 to the flap 4 whereby a follow-up action is obtained and the flaps are moved through an angle proportional to the displacement of the control 17. Further, the arrangement permits the flaps to move under the effect of, e.g., wind gusts. Specification 502,336, [Group XXXIII], is referred to.
