The head of a safety razor is provided with a honing or stropping slide which is separate from the cap and guard and can be reciprocated between these elements, across the blade edge, without moving the blade from the shaving position. As shown, the slide s having honing surfaces along two opposite edges, is mounted on pins p of the cap c for reciprocation, by hand, across the cutting edges e, e<SP>1</SP> of the blade b. The razor is tightened up. with the slide in position s<SP>1</SP>, for use. The slide may be of metal or of plastic material and may be impregnated or coated with abrasive. In a modification, for use with a single-edged blade, the honing surface is at one side only.
