Description
J1me 1945- w. F. SONNENFELD 5 SAFETY RAZOR GUARD PLATE Filed Aug. 18, 1943 INVENTOR WILLIAM F? vSONNENFELD Patented June 26, 1945 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE SAFETY RAzoR GUARD PLATE William F. Sonnenfeld, Sheboygan, Wis. Application August 18, 1943, Serial No. 499,303
1 Claim.
The invention relates to improvements in safety razor guard plates for double edged razor blades and the objects of the improvements are: first, to provide double edged razors with an unguarded blade by means of an arouate cutout provided at one side of the guard plate, second, to provide the unguarded edge of the razor blade with end guards, and third, to attain the results of an unobstructed safety razor blade with the combined end guards and arcuate cutout.
The invention consists in a new safety razor guard plate arrangement and construction as hereinafter set forth and claimed.
In the drawing Figure 1 is a top view of the safety razor guard plate I with razor blade 2, Figure 2 is an end view of the guard plate I, a cap plate I, a double edged razor blade 2,, and side view of a handle 6, holding the rod passing through the razor blade and guard plate.
The novelty of the unguarded blade 2 between the end guards 8, Figure 1 is attained by means of arcuate cutouts 3 of the guard plate I to facilitate shaving along a line or edge and especially when used for a neck shave, it is therefore not necessary to use a different razor as is the case when shaving with safety razors with a double edged cutting blade that are shown in previous patents. What I mean is, the invention of my device be used at the opposite side of the guarded blade. The object of the end guards 8 is to prevent the sharp corners of the unguarded blade from nicking the skin when shaving. Another object in my device is to attain an unobstructed razor blade edge as an improvement over the ordinary safety razors that are guarded at both sides and which are not very useful for shaving along a line or edge and this is where the unguarded blades will show the improved results in my invention.
Figure 2, the guard 4 as'shown is similar in shape as the outer part of the razor guard, patent June 3, 1934, No. 1,496,295, Henry M. Chance, and is applied in this case to further the cause of my invention although a different type of guard may be applied instead without changing the faculty of my improvement. The cap plate 1, the handle 6, and razor blade 2, are not necessarily a part of this invention and are applied to illustrate the position of the guard plate I with mutual arrangement of a guarded and unguarded razor blade thereof.
Having now particularly described and ascertained the nature of my said invention and to what manner the same isto be performed I declare that what I claim is:
A safety razor guard plate for double edged safety razor blades, formed in such a manner to enable shaving with an unobstructed razor blade, the front edge of said guard plate presenting an arcuate cutout, said edge curving outward from the center section of the guard plate and combining with the end edges of the plate to form a tapered end guard at each end of the guard plate.
WILLIAM F. SONNENFEII-D.
