Abstract
A method of thermochemically cutting wrought or cast alloy steel containing a large percentage of chromium which renders the steel difficult to cut thermochemically comprises projecting a stream of cutting oxygen against the alloy steel while the metal is at kindling temperature and introducing into the cutting oxygen stream a flux comprising at least one of a group comprising iron sulphide or an alkali metal sulphur-containing compound such as potassium sulphide or sodium sulphite.
