Abstract
A molten salt bath for annealing metal articles comprises common salt, sodium or potassium carbonate and potassium sulphate in such proportions that the proportion of sodium to potassium in the mixture is not greater than 1. Up to 6 per cent of borax or sodium phosphate and up to 10 per cent of the carbonates or oxide of alkaline-earth metals including magnesium may be added to the mixture. Examples of the bath are: 41 per cent of common salt, 48 per cent of potassium sulphate and 1 per cent of sodium carbonate; 30 per cent of common salt, 44 per cent of potassium sulphate, 21 per cent of potassium carbonate and 5 per cent of borax.
