Abstract
158,827. Pacz, A. Feb. 13, 1920, [Convention date]. Alloys.-Aluminium alloys, for making castings, containing 5-25 per cent of silicon, preferably about 12.5 per cent, which may be made by melting together 1 part of commercial silicon and 4 parts of aluminium and adding to the decanted molten product the remainder of the aluminium, are refined by treatment with an alkali fluoride, with or without other salts; or a mixture adapted to yield an alkali fluoride, such as sodium fluoride and sodium chloride, may be used. The amount of iron present in the alloys preferably does not exceed 0.5 per cent. An alloy of 92 per cent of aluminium and 8 per cent of copper is also referred to.
