Abstract

160,373. British Thomson - Houston Co., Ltd., (General Electric Co.). April 17, 1920. Alloys.-An alloy' or mixture of tungsten and silicon for making electric lamp filaments is produced by mixing silicic acid and a solution. of tungstic acid or other tungsten compound, and then precipitating and reducing the tungsten and silicon. One method consists in reducing by magnesium the metal produced as described in Specification 155,851 which contains some silicic acid; or the reduction of tungstic acid and silicic acid may be effected simultaneously. The product, which may contain 1-3 per cent of silicon, is pressed into slugs and mechanically treated. Specification 24707/07 is also referred to.
