Abstract
215,348. British Thomson-Houston Co., Ltd., (Assignees of Fonda, G. R.). May 1, 1923, [Convention date]. Alloys. - Tungsten filaments contain thorium and boron as elementary constituents. These materials may be added in the elementary state, or as reducible or decomposable compounds. For instance to finely-divided tungsten may be added 0.5 per cent metallic thorium or 0.7 per cent thorium oxide and 0.5 to 0.3 per cent boron nitride. When filaments made from these mixtures are treated at high temperatures the boron nitride decomposes, and when thorium oxide is present this is reduced by the boron to metallic thorium. Specifications 7655/06, 18053/07 and 10918/13, [Class 39 (ii), Electric lamps, Incandescent], are referred to.
