[Also in Group XIII] For heating and cooling, and, if desired, subsequently storing, liquids such as ice-cream mixes and milk, there is employed an apparatus (Figs. 2 and 3) comprising a container 1 for the liquid, a surrounding heating or cooling bath 2, means for introducing a flow of heating or cooling medium through the bath, and conduits 11, 11,... passing through the container, which conduits take a diagonal course and open into the bath, whereby the same medium flows through the bath and the conduits. The conduits preferably open into the bath at the bottom of the container, e.g. at B (Fig. 3). Medium in the bath may be heated by a gas ring. Introduction of cooling medium may be by way of a pipe 12 leading to pipes 6 which lead to the individual conduits 11 ; cooling medium flowing from the conduits into the bath may be delivered from the bath by the outlets of pipes 7 near the top of the bath, the pipes 7 leading to a common outlet 8 at the base of the bath. The container may be provided with a stirrer.
